The Chessboard Setup

The chessboard consists of 64 squares arranged in an 8x8 grid. Set up the pieces with the rooks in the corners, knights beside them, bishops next to the knights, and the queen in the center. The king goes next to the queen, and all the pawns line up in front of the pieces.

Understanding the Pieces

Each piece moves differently. Pawns move forward but capture diagonally, knights move in an L-shape, and bishops move diagonally. Rooks move horizontally or vertically, queens move in any direction, and the king can move one square at a time in any direction.

Basic Chess Rules

The game begins with both players having 16 pieces. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king. This means putting their king in a position where it cannot escape capture. Always keep an eye on your king and plan your moves carefully.
